Explore with Hibiscus Travel

Choose from local excursions to interesting, beautiful, and adventure-filled places! Hibiscus promotes and works with local, Costa Rican owned and operated businesses in an effort to continue social consciousness. Typical places for excursions may include: beaches, historical sites, UNESCO archaeological sites, villages, towns, indigenous tribes, etc. Typical tour activities may include: zip lining, horseback riding, waterfalls, surfing, coffee plantations, chocolate making, cultural events, local markets, hot springs, exotic animal centers, etc.The list of tours that participants may have coordinated into their program include some of the excursions listed below.

Manuel Antonio National Park Guided Hike & Beaches Day Trip 

 

An engaging guided tour with Hibiscus’ experienced bilingual guide through the National Park while learning about the park’s wildlife & ecosystem. Tourists find the National Park is alive with sloths, monkeys, tropical butterflies, birds, snakes, iguanas, orchids, & more. They learn how the animals & plants life-cycles work in the rainforest. as well as their functions in the ecosystem & in their biodome specific only to Manuel Antonio. After the guided tour, tourists choose from 3 hiking trails to continue exploring on their own or from one of three seculded beaches.

 

Full day / Departs at 07:00 am

Zip-Lining, Waterfall Rappel, & Horseback Ride

 

 

This excursion is a dream for those who enjoy action packed thrills. Head to the rainforest and zipline from 11 platforms with a bird's-eye view covering over 850 acres of wildlife!  Gallop through the rainforest on horseback for majestic views and exotic wildlife. Rappel down a 200 foot waterfall with supervision from the trained bilingual guides!

Crocodile & Mangrove River Boat Tour with Carrara National Park Guided Hike

 

Head down the Tarcoles Rivers in Costa Rica that is well known for being full of crocodiles, and made famous by National Geographic (NatGeo). Get up-close and personal to the prehistoric giants as our guide steps out of the boat to hand-feed the crocodiles. Afterwards, head down the Head down the
and through the mangrove & forest. After the boat ride voyage in the private transport to National Park Carrara for a guided hike in the beautiful rainforest lush in plants & animals.

Marino Ballena National Park has a naturally formed beach in the shape of a whale’s tail!  Take a boat ride through the National Park while stopping to snorkel in all the best locations.  Participants may see bryde’s whales & pilot whales, & dolphins migrating across the ocean. The most commonly seen dolphins on the Pacific coast are the bottlenose dolphins, commonly known as dolphins & spotted dolphins. The tour goes through the Marino Ballena National Park, Isla Ballena (Whale Island), Las Rocas Tres Hermanas (Three Sisters Rocks), Cavernas Ventanas (Windows Caves), & the Tómbolo of Punta Uvita. The tour visits a seabird sanctuary, Whale Island, & views of migratory birds and reptiles including green iguanas & lizards. Optional recreational diving on coral reefs in these wild areas are highly encouraged to enjoy the great quantity of marine species such as reef fish, mollusks, crustaceans, rays, starfish, & more.

Secret Waterfalls and Horseback Riding

Enjoy four locally known treasures of Osa at these gorgeous and not well known of waterfalls.  Soak, bathe, and relax in the beauty of this hidden treasure. The first two waterfalls are refreshing and are even said to have healing powers. Then head into the jungle on horseback to secluded waterfalls of Nauyaca. Cascading waterfalls with a beautiful lagoon to spend the day and jump into from the steps of the waterfall.

Surf Classes & All-Day Board Rental

Interested in learning how to surf or SUP? Take a two hour class with us to learn the basics of how to surf from our bilingual professional surf instructor. Spend the rest of the day with your board rental to practice your new skills!

 

Half Day  / Departs with morning or afternoon tide

UNESCO Archealogical Site & Indigenous Tribe Day Trip 

 

Take a visit to a typical hut where our guide explains the cultural importance & meaning of many aspects of the tribe. Participants will either visit a sacred spiritual site at a waterfall, participate in traditional indigenous workshop in either tribal mask making or natural textile making, and learn about the history & art of tribal masks. Participants all receive a small orientation to learn about the tribe’s culture and Boruca language. Many of the indigenous tribes are remotely untouched by western culture and practice traditions reaching back thousands of years.

 

Indigenous Tribe Week-long Cultural Learning Program

Learn & observe traditional indigenous ceremony participation in natural medicine alongside a tribe’s shaman performed in a typical hut or a spiritual ceremony done with smoke, river mud. The ceremony is performed by the tribal honors group in the river near a sacred religious site (min.3 ppl for the spiritual ceremony). The excursion also includes a visit which explains the importance & meaning of many aspects of the tribe. Participants will also receive a tribal mask. Participants all receive a small orientation to learn about the tribe’s culture and language.
